اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي | Dua of Ramadan | Meaning and Significance

This is a beautiful and powerful Islamic dua (supplication). It is often recited, especially during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Decree), which is better than a thousand months.
Translation:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

ترجمہ: "اے اللہ! بے شک تو معاف کرنے والا ہے، تو معافی کو پسند کرتا ہے، پس مجھے معاف فرما دے

Transliteration: Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa’fu anni.

Translation: "O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me."

Meaning and Significance:

• اَللَّهُمَّ (Allahumma): "O Allah!"

• إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ (Innaka Afuwwun): "Indeed, You are the Pardoner." Afuwwun refers to Allah's attribute of forgiving and erasing sins completely.
• تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ (Tuhibbul Afwa): "You love to pardon."
• This highlights that Allah not only forgives but also loves to forgive His servants.
• فَاعْفُ عَنِّي (Fa’fu Anni): "So pardon me."

This is a humble request for Allah's forgiveness and mercy.

When to Recite:

This dua is especially recommended during the last ten nights of Ramadan, particularly on the odd nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th), as Laylatul Qadr is likely to occur on one of these nights.
It can also be recited anytime when seeking Allah's forgiveness, such as during Tahajjud (night prayers), after obligatory prayers, or in moments of sincere repentance.

Virtues of This Dua:

• Seeking Forgiveness: It is a comprehensive dua for seeking Allah's pardon for all sins, big and small.
• Laylatul Qadr: Reciting this dua on Laylatul Qadr is highly virtuous, as it is a night of immense blessings and forgiveness.
• Allah's Love for Forgiveness: The dua emphasizes that Allah loves to forgive, which encourages us to turn to Him with hope and sincerity.

Hadith Reference:

This dua is based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It is reported that Aisha (رضي الله عنها) asked the Prophet (ﷺ):
"O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylatul Qadr, what should I say?"
The Prophet (ﷺ) replied:
"Say: اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي** (O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me)."
(Sunan Ibn Majah 3850, Tirmidhi 3513)

How to Use This Dua:

• During Ramadan: Recite it frequently during the last ten nights of Ramadan, especially during Tahajjud or after Taraweeh prayers.

یہ دعا ایک بہت ہی پیاری اور مؤثر دعا ہے جو خاص طور پر رمضان المبارک کی آخری دس راتوں میں پڑھی جاتی ہے، بالخصوص لیلۃ القدر (شب قدر) میں، جو ہزار مہینوں سے بہتر ہے۔

دعا:

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Transliteration: Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbul afwa fa’fu anni.

ترجمہ: "اے اللہ! بے شک تو معاف کرنے والا ہے، تو معافی کو پسند کرتا ہے، پس مجھے معاف فرما دے۔"

معنی اور فضیلت:

• اَللَّهُمَّ (اللہم): "اے اللہ!"
• إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ (بے شک تو معاف کرنے والا ہے): عَفُوٌّ کا مطلب ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ گناہوں کو معاف کرنے والا ہے اور انہیں مٹا دیتا ہے۔
• تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ (تو معافی کو پسند کرتا ہے): یہ اس بات کی طرف اشارہ ہے کہ اللہ نہ صرف معاف کرتا ہے بلکہ معاف کرنا پسند بھی کرتا ہے۔
• فَاعْفُ عَنِّي (پس مجھے معاف فرما دے): یہ اللہ سے معافی کی ایک عاجزانہ درخواست ہے۔

دعا پڑھنے کا وقت:

• یہ دعا خاص طور پر رمضان کی آخری دس راتوں میں پڑھی جاتی ہے، بالخصوص طاق راتوں (21، 23، 25، 27، 29) میں، کیونکہ شب قدر انہی راتوں میں سے کسی ایک میں ہوتی ہے۔
• اسے کسی بھی وقت پڑھا جا سکتا ہے، جیسے تہجد کی نماز میں، فرض نمازوں کے بعد، یا توبہ و استغفار کے وقت۔

دعا کی فضیلت:

• گناہوں کی معافی: یہ دعا تمام چھوٹے بڑے گناہوں کی معافی کے لیے ایک جامع دعا ہے۔

• اللہ کی محبت: اس دعا میں اللہ کی معافی کی محبت کو بیان کیا گیا ہے، جو ہمیں امید اور اخلاص کے ساتھ اللہ کی طرف رجوع کرنے کی ترغیب دیتا ہے۔

حدیث کی روشنی میں:
حضرت عائشہ (رضی اللہ عنہا) نے نبی کریم (ﷺ) سے پوچھا:
"یا رسول اللہ! اگر مجھے معلوم ہو جائے کہ شب قدر کون سی رات ہے، تو میں کیا دعا کروں؟"
آپ (ﷺ) نے فرمایا:
